Here are fun ways to build fine motor skills.
- Draw and color pictures (using broken crayons promotes better grip): Create a comic or book, copy characters from a book, magazine or favorite show
- Build with small Legos
- Cut and create crafts with art supplies (you can even use the fun blade scissors)
- Tear art- tearing different colored paper and gluing to create a design
- Practice correct letter formation by writing in salt, sugar, whipped cream, or shaving cream on a cookie sheet
- Single-hand hole punch
- Use tweezers/tongs/clothespins to pick up or move small objects out of the egg carton.
- Use bread dough, pizza dough, etc., to squeeze with your index finger and thumb to hunt for dried pieces of pasta hidden inside
- Place coins, beads, and Legos into play dough to pull out
- Roll, cut, squeeze, design with play dough or putty
- Place a washcloth or hand towel under water, and have your child wring out the water
- Use a water bottle to squirt out water on cement/sidewalk. Have them squirt to make shapes and letters.
